Ventway Sparrow
Ultra-portable turbine ventilator weighing only 1.3 kg. Designed for emergency, transport, and field use - from point of injury to ICU. Impact resistant, maintenance free, with hospital-grade performance in a compact form factor. Available in EMS (orange) and Robust/MRI-compatible (olive) variants.
A portable ventilator built for EMS
The Ventway Sparrow from Inovytec is a 1.3 kg turbine ventilator measuring 165 × 167 × 60 mm. The turbine generates airflow from room air, so no compressed-air cylinder is needed, and the internal battery runs for at least 4 hours. One device can stay with the patient from the scene, through the ambulance or aircraft, to the emergency room.
Ventilation modes: SIMV-VC-PS, SIMV-PC, CPAP, HFNC (high-flow nasal cannula) and a CPR mode for ventilating during chest compressions.
Patient range: adults and pediatric patients over 5 kg, tidal volume 50 to 2,000 mL, FiO₂ 21 to 95%.
Standards: IEC 60601, EN 794-3 (emergency and transport ventilators), EN 1789 (road ambulances), RTCA DO-160G (aircraft) and IP45. Rated for use at altitudes up to 25,000 ft.
Choosing the right variant
The Sparrow comes in two families: the EMS variant (orange) for ambulances and general pre-hospital work, and the Robust/MRI variants (olive) for specialised environments. For use inside the MRI suite, see the Ventway Sparrow MRI. For field and military use, see the Ventway Sparrow Robust. For an ICU that needs waveforms and lung mechanics, the Amoul 6000S is the better fit.
Thunder Venture Group delivers, installs and trains EMS crews on site across all 77 provinces, with calibration and annual safety inspection afterwards. Our ventilator buying guide walks through the choice in detail.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Ventway Sparrow need a gas cylinder?
Not for ventilating with room air: the turbine generates its own airflow. To deliver FiO₂ above 21%, connect an oxygen source.
Can it be used on children?
Yes. The Sparrow covers pediatric patients over 5 kg and adults, with tidal volumes from 50 to 2,000 mL.
Can it be used on helicopters and aircraft?
The Sparrow meets RTCA DO-160G for airborne equipment and is rated to 25,000 ft. Check the requirements of each air operator as well.
